Sri Lanka has one International Airport located in Katunayake. The airport is conveniently located a mere 37 kms from the commercial capital of Colombo( about an hours drive). Adjacent to a main highway, the airport is easily accessible albeit often brought to a halt with heavy traffic.

There are a variety of hotels around the area that you can choose from, making it ideal for the transit traveler. Another great option would be heading to the quaint town of Negombo, which is approximately 7 kms from Katunayake International Airport. Here a traveler has the added advantage of relaxing on one of the numerous beautiful beaches of the island. Many find that starting in Negombo is the best way to begin your journey through Sri Lanka, rather than directly heading to the busy capital city.
