Nuwara Eliya season
During the month of April, the quaint town of Nuwara Eliya reaches its peak. It
is during the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year that this town is buzzing with activity.
Residents of Colombo descend on the town of Nuwara Eliya in search of an escape
from the hot weather and a break from cosmopolitan life. The ‘season’ dates back
as far as the colonial period of Sri Lanka, with hundreds of city dwellers climbing
up to the hills for a breezy break.
Today, the “ Who’s who” of Colombo ascend the hills and enjoy horse racing, concerts,
parties, flower shows, golf tournaments and motor rallies. The entire city of Nuwara
Eliya is transformed from its usual laid back Garden City lifestyle to a bustling,
vibrant town.
